The life insurance company "underwrites" your life insurance application.
Once your completed life insurance application is received and your medical exam is completed it is transmitted to the life insurance carrier and the underwriting process begins. This process, on average, takes 4-6 weeks depending on what is required by the life insurance underwriter. The life insurance application and exam are reviewed by an underwriter and sometimes your medical records may be required. The process of obtaining your medical records is usually the longest part of the life insurance application process.
