Substance abuse on the rise among baby boomers

Experts at the Hanley Center in Florida recently announced baby boomers have an increased need for substance abuse treatment services.

Experts at the rehab facility, which is a Caron Treatment Center, expect the number of older Americans in need of substance abuse treatment to double over the next nine years.

"As Baby Boomers enter a transitional stage in their lives, new stressors, such as financial strain, grieving the loss of a parent or age-related health issues, make them more prone to depression and anxiety," said Dr. Barbara Krantz, CEO of Hanley.

Krantz added the baby boomer generation grew up with recreational drug use and are reverting back to their habits as a way to deal with change and stress.

Baby boomers on the cusp of old age will need to start thinking about life insurance coverage if they haven't already.
