A new study from researchers at Northwestern University weighs the lifetime risk of having either a heart attack or stroke.
Published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the study found that men and women may have a misplaced sense of security concerning their chances of having a stroke or heart attack, based on calculating their risk only 10 years into the future.
"We are giving incomplete and misleading risk information if we only focus on the next 10 years of someone's life," said Donald Lloyd-Jones, principal investigator. "With even just one risk factor, the likelihood is very large that someone will develop a major cardiovascular event that will kill them or substantially diminish their quality of life or health."
Regardless of risk factors based on gender, race and other aspects, adults of all ages should be financially and mentally prepared for the unpredictable by having the proper insurance policies in place. Those with dependents and loved ones who rely on their financial contributions should have life insurance coverage. Comparing life insurance quotes online is an easy way to see how much a policy would cost for individuals from all walks of life.
