Study: Eating fish can stave off Alzheimer's

11/30/11

A new study revealed that eating fish might reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

Presented recently at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, the study showed that people who eat baked or broiled fish on a weekly basis may be improving their overall brain health and reducing the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's.

"Working memory, which allows people to focus on tasks and commit information to short-term memory, is one of the most important cognitive domains," said Dr. Cyrus Raji of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. "Working memory is destroyed by Alzheimer's disease. We found higher levels of working memory in people who ate baked or broiled fish on a weekly basis, even when accounting for other factors, such as education, age, gender and physical activity."

Baby boomers and senior citizens will want to adopt healthy lifestyles and eating habits to improve longevity and stave off diseases like Alzheimer's. Good health can contribute to affordable insurance, and anyone with dependents will want to have some form of life insurance coverage for the financial protection of their loved ones.
