October is "Talk About Prescriptions Month" and with it comes a campaign to engage senior citizens about the importance of being mindful of their prescribed medications as well as provide information on the start of Medicare's Annual Election Period.
The Annual Election Period from Medicare allows beneficiaries to disenroll from, and enroll or switch into, a Medicare Advantage or Part D prescription drug plan.
"Medicare prescription drug plans can offer a variety of benefit and premium options," said Scott Kelly, chief Medicare officer of Health Net. "It is important to select the plan that best fits your needs."
Kelly added that all senior citizens concerned with their healthcare coverage should consider the four C's. Cost, convenience, coverage and customer service are the main focal points seniors should consider before choosing a policy.
In addition to health coverage, senior citizens should also be mindful of life insurance coverage. Elderly aged 65 and older may have a difficult time finding the right coverage at the right price, but there are a number of options to choose from in having the best chance at locating coverage. Term life insurance is more easily obtainable for seniors than whole life coverage because the former does not require a medical check-up for eligibility.
