Research presented recently at the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's Speciality Day in San Francisco reveals treatment for hip conditions should not rest only on MRI scans.
The research resulted in a study that evaluated 45 volunteer subjects who had no history of hip symptoms, pain, injury or previous surgeries with each participating receiving an MRI scan that was reviewed by three different radiologists.
"The hope with a study like this is improved treatment and decision-making for physicians who are dealing with hip disorders," said Dr. Bradley Register, lead author of the study. "Our results emphasize the importance of correlating clinical signs and symptoms with imaging findings when considering surgery for patients with these conditions."
Hip conditions can happen to individuals of all ages but are especially common in senior citizens and those who are growing old and bones becoming brittle. Adults should purchase a life insurance policy as early as possible so medical and other health-related conditions do not get in the way of attractive rates.
