Many senior citizens require caregivers to accomplish daily tasks, but new research conducted at Virginia Tech revealed that caregivers' health may be negatively affected by the person they're caring for.
The research, reported in the November issue of Journals of Gerontology Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences, revealed that the more a caregiver's day is disrupted by the behaviors of a loved one, the more difficult it becomes for the caregiver to balance other priorities.
"Providing support for a relative encountering cognitive difficulties often requires significant changes in everyday roles and responsibilities," said Tina Savla, lead author of the study. "These changes take a toll on family relationships and psychological health, and carry consequences for the care partner's physical health."
No one wants to become a burden on loved ones due to health conditions related to aging or due to other unforeseen circumstances, which is why it is important to take the worry out of financial matters with a quality life insurance policy. The right amount of coverage will take care of funeral arrangements, the annual expenses of the policyholder's dependents and any future college tuition payments for the policyholder's children. It will go a long way in easing the burden of an unpredictable future.
