The result of a two-year research project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council finds that individuals suffering from dementia can continue to make everyday decisions even as their condition worsens.
Dementia is an ailment commonly experienced by senior citizens as they grow older. The project studied couples and how they make their daily decisions, including what to wear and what to eat, and how having a partner can help a dementia sufferer get through those daily tasks.
"It's important for people with dementia to be supported to allow them to make decisions where they're still able to," said Dr. Geraldine Boyle, study researcher. "Having dementia doesn't mean you automatically lose your decision-making ability - this needs to be considered on a decision-by-decision basis."
Boyle added professionals need to promote involvement with the decision-making process for those with dementia.
Elderly individuals with a spouse or dependents of any kind are encouraged to purchase life insurance coverage. Those with health issues may want to consider a term life policy because it does not require a medical check-up for coverage. However, there are a number of different policies and rates to choose from.
