Caregiving for senior citizens is necessary throughout the year, but the need for care is especially acute during the holiday season, according to Care.com, which describes itself as the largest and fastest growing service used by families in need of care providers.
Increased awareness of chronic illness, Alzheimer's disease, frailty and other medical issues commonly affecting senior citizens occurs during the holiday season, said Jody Gastfriend, vice president of care management at Care.com.
"Going home for the holidays has layers of significance for adult children, particularly those who live out of town," she said. "It remains a time of togetherness and love, but it's also an opportunity to observe your parents' physical and mental health to determine if they're thriving or require greater assistance. We encourage families in this situation to communicate their concerns and develop a proactive approach to caregiving."
Before delving into caregiving options, senior citizens and their family members should make sure a life insurance policy is in place to financially protect the individuals' loved ones. Comparing life insurance quotes online from different companies is the most effective way to learn pricing and policy information before purchasing.
