California budget cuts could force older citizens with disabilities to struggle to remain at home, as public programs could lose funding and jeopardize seniors' health and safety in the process.
These were the findings of a study by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research, in conjunction with The SCAN Foundation.
If the projected $100 million in additional cuts are made to In-Home Supportive Services on December 15, senior support systems for the disabled could lose funding.
"A 20 percent cut in caregiver hours would be devastating to disabled seniors' health and well-being," said Kathryn Kietzman, lead author of the study. "And in the long run, it could cost the state more, because ailing seniors will end up in expensive emergency rooms, hospitals and nursing homes."
As senior citizens in California and elsewhere age, they should take a look at their financial situation and determine whether or not their life insurance coverage is adequate. In addition to comparing life insurance quotes online, seniors are also encouraged to consult a financial professional before deciding on the right policy.
