Baby boomers are closing in on senior citizen status and are prone to eye issues, but a recent survey conducted by Eye on the Boomer revealed not many are concerned about vision health.
The study, recently released by the Ocular Nutrition Society, found that 78 percent of baby boomers rank vision as the most important of their five senses, but only 55 percent of those respondents are worried about vision loss, compared to heart disease with 60 percent.
"The baby boomer generation is characterized by their desire for independence," said Jeffrey Anshel, president of the Ocular Nutrition Society. "As this generation ages, many will be affected by some type of eye concern which could impact their daily lives. We wanted to gain an understanding of how active boomers are about maintaining their eyes as they age and what they knew about overall eye health."
Although eye issues generally don't lead to life-threatening health problems, senior citizens should be concerned about their overall health as it is the gateway to affordable life insurance coverage. Comparing quotes online is an effective way for people of all ages to find the most affordable rates offered to their demographic.
