Although longevity may not historically be synonymous with living in New York City, Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently announced New Yorkers are living longer.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg said at a news conference at a maternity ward of a Bronx hospital that data analysis from city health officials show New Yorkers are enjoying greater longevity despite crime, pollution and other hazards associated with living in the country's largest city.
"Today, newborn New Yorkers can expect to live longer, healthier lives than ever before and also live longer if they were born and lived in many other parts of America," Bloomberg said, according to the newspaper.
Living longer can be a double-edged sword, as it can also lead to a greater risk of a number of different health issues and other medical concerns. Before old age and poor health set in, consumers in New York and elsewhere are encouraged to purchase a life insurance policy to protect their loved ones financially, given an unpredictable future.
