Morgan Stanley to host discussion on financial planning for small business owners

09/28/11

Morgan Stanley Smith Barney recently announced a presentation to be hosted on October 6 that will focus on estate and financial planning. The event, held in partnership with the New America Alliance: An American Latino Business Initiative, will be held at the JW Mariott in Los Angeles, California.

For many small business owners, their organization represents a significant portion of their financial legacy, and a primary concern is how to keep businesses within a family. The Morgan Stanley symposium will focus on planning to address this and other business issues, specifically looking at the needs of Latino business owners.

"The discussion of succession planning for family business owners is very important and we are delighted to be working together with New America Alliance to have this dialogue with Latino entrepreneurs in the greater Los Angeles area," said Robert Perry, managing director and Los Angeles metro regional director for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

In the wake of the economic downturn, many small business owners have dealt with more immediate issues as profits slowed, and future financial planning, in some cases, fell by the wayside. Damage to small businesses presents a major problem for the economy at large, as small businesses represent more than 99 percent of all employer firms, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.
